Purpose of Fiber optic identifier & visual fault locator
- Fiber break locator is an efficient and fast way to determine the physical characteristics of an optical fiber. By using this tool, users will be able to identify the type of optical fiber they are dealing with quickly. It is a valuable tool for fiber optic technicians, engineers, and network administrators.
- A visual fault locator (VFL) is yet another option in this device to locate faults in optical fiber cables. The VFL emits a bright beam of light, typically in the visible spectrum, which allows the user to see the light as it is transmitted through the fiber. Using this technique, the user can locate the fault and repair it.
How does it work?
- By analysing the backscatter of a short laser pulse sent down an optical fiber, fiber optic identifiers detect and locate fibers. The backscatter is caused by the different refractive indices of the core and cladding materials of the optical fiber. The backscatter is then converted into an electrical signal that can be analyzed to determine the type of optical fiber.
- The Visual Fault locator injects a laser into the fiber which is then used to locate faults in the fiber. The laser is used to find breaks, cracks, and other damage in the fiber.
LED Display:
Using the LED display, the Fiber Optic Visual Fault Locator is able to indicate the optical link status and identify the frequency. This display will also show the optical link loss in dB and the frequency with a beep.
Other Details:
- Direction Recognition is used to detect the direction of an optical fiber. As soon as the device is pointed in the right direction, an LED on the device will illuminate.
- The On / Off Button is used to turn the entire device on and off.
- DB / dBm Button is used to switch the unit of measurement between decibels and decibels per meter.
- LED Switch is used to turn the LED on/off.
- VFL Switch is to turn the VFL (Visual Fault Locator) on/off.
- This tool comes with a LED hidden red light source to identify the location of fiber optic cable breaks. It is also useful in tracing the path and identify the break in the fiber optic cable.
Design
The handheld ergonomic design of the fiber optic identifier & visual fault locator is compact and easy to use. This is ideal for field technicians who need to quickly identify fiber optic cable breaks, splices, and other faults.
Battery
This device comes with a 2 * AA battery and is used to help identify fiber optic cable faults visually. By pressing down Trigger switch we can clamp and test the fiber optic cable.
