Is BSNL Set to Revolutionize 4G Service Using Vodafone and Idea Spectrum in 2024?
Yes, it was a temporary bond, as per the letter by BSNL Union General Secretary P. Abhimanyu on February 13, 2024. Let us understand what was highlighted in the letter first. Massive BSNL customers are porting out from the service due to the unavailability of 4G service. Also, “ the reality was both Airtel and Jio armed with their state of 5G art technology which have started approaching bsnl customer”.
In New Delhi, the BSNL Employees Union came up with a proposal to the government of immediate action to utilize the Vodafone Idea network spectrum for 4G services. Since the state-run company's 4G network deployment by TCS is still ongoing and not yet on pan-India, General Secretary of the BSNL Union, stated that as Vi's largest shareholder with a 33% stake, government should utilize its status to ensure that BSNL can immediately provide 4G services to customers with Vi's network. He also stated that it is a temporary measure until Bsnl 4G service is commissioned by TCS. These are the highlights mentioned in the letter sent to Communication and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
While meeting with the press (Economic Times), Abhimanyu mentioned that he had spoken to senior higher authorities of BSNL, and he assured the rest. Also, he mentioned “ Vi is also losing their customer because of network congestion and 5G service from their two competitors. So, this arrangement will be beneficial for both companies and save from losing remaining customers”.
As per the union, BSNL CMD informed earlier that the 4G pan India service would be launched on October 2024 but in the recent union association meeting held in Ahmedabad a month ago. They stated that the delay in the delivery and installation of 4G equipment to BSNL by TCS is causing the delay in the 4G service, as mentioned in the letter. Abhimanyu also mentioned that they have not yet completed the field trials for TCS's 4G equipment and the union is concerned that the commissioning of the 4G service will face further delays, seriously impacting the financial revival of the company as envisaged under the government's revival package.
