With the DGS-1210ME Series, Metro Ethernet switches are available in a variety of configurations. Port configurations include 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 ports, 1G SFP ports, and 10G SFP+ ports for increased network bandwidth.
The Metro ethernet switch supports the spanning tree protocol which makes it provides an alternative L2 function while on network failover. This support IEEE 802.1D, IEEE 802.1s, and IEEE 802.1w spanning tree protocols.Link aggregation from this switch, which groups multiple ports into a single vertical port for an increase of bandwidth and redundancy of high availability. For multimedia applications like VoIP or IPTV, advanced traffic classification parameters can be used to tune the network.
The DGS 1210 10 metro ethernet switch is a managed switch that functions in a similar way to a smart managed switch and the DGS 1210 28 ME is a fully managed intelligent switch. Both switch functions are GUI, easy to control, and via web browser control. Along with a technical Command Line Interface (CLI) which makes administrators create scripts and program multiple switches.
When compared to other brands, these D-link metro Ethernet switches are affordable. Depending on the needs and performance of the switch, the price may also vary.
Security & Authentication
- For strict network access control, IEEE 802.1X port-based/host-based access control, guest VLANs, and RADIUS/TACACS+ authentication is supported.
- IP-MAC-Port Binding (IMPB) allows administrators to link source IP addresses with MAC addresses and define the port numbers to enhance user security.
- D-Link Safeguard Engine automatically traps packets and logs events in broadcast, multicast, and unicast flooding situations to ensure CPU protection.
- Access Control List (ACL) feature increases the reliability of switches and adds security to networks.
Managing Capabilities
- Provides administrators with advanced management features, such as auto-configuration of DHCP.
- When switches are assigned an IP address, they can load their configuration from a TFTP server, facilitating central management.
- Support Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), allows administrators to better manage their network topology by identifying a device's capabilities and identity.
- Cable diagnostics enable remote troubleshooting of cable length and functionality problems, resulting in lower management overhead.
Bandwidth & Traffic Control
- Bandwidth control system allows administrators to set throughput levels for ingress and egress.
- It permits bandwidth control of ingress ports and flows at 64 Kbps, and egress queue bandwidth at 64 Kbps.
- Port mirroring facilitates traffic diagnostics and helps administrators track network performance by dropping packets when they exceed a set threshold.
- To optimize available bandwidth, IGMP snooping with IGMP authentication is provided.
Multicast Applications
- The L2 multicast functions include IGMP snooping, IGMP filtering, fast leave, and multicast traffic configuration.
- ISM VLAN sends multicast streams in a multicast VLAN, saving bandwidth on the backbone, using host-based IGMP/MLD snooping
- Users can bind or replace predefined multicast registration information quickly and easily using ISM VLAN profiles
